ArrivalAt an airport or seaport designated for e-Visa arrivals

Burundian passport holders can obtain an Indian e-Visa for short visits. You must apply online at the official government portal before departure. The e-Visa covers tourism, business, and medical purposes. Check the official site for the latest eligibility and terms. You cannot get a visa on arrival at the airport.

What the e-Visa means

The Indian e-Visa allows Burundian citizens to enter India for tourism, business, or medical treatment without visiting an embassy. You apply entirely online and receive an electronic authorisation. Print this document and carry it with your passport when you travel.

The e-Visa is linked electronically to your passport. It is valid for entry at designated airports and seaports only. Land borders are not covered. Check the official site for the list of ports and any updates to the scheme.

Before you travel

Apply on the official e-Visa website at least a few days before your flight. You need a digital photo and a scanned copy of your passport's bio page. Pay the fee online using a credit or debit card. The processing time varies; check the site for current status.

Once approved, you receive an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) by email. Print this and keep it with your travel documents. Ensure your passport has at least two blank pages. Check the official site for any passport validity requirements.

Arriving in India

At the airport, proceed to the e-Visa counter. You will have your fingerprints and photograph taken (biometrics). The immigration officer stamps your passport. The e-Visa allows you to stay for a continuous period; check the official site for the exact duration.

When travelling between Indian cities, carry a copy of your e-Visa and passport. Domestic flights may require ID checks. If you leave India and wish to return, you need a new e-Visa application. The e-Visa is not extendable or convertible to another visa type.

Other visa categories

For longer stays, work, or study, the e-Visa is not suitable. You must apply for a regular visa at the Indian embassy or consulate. Categories include employment visa, student visa, and entry visa. Each has specific requirements and processing times.

Check the official site of the Indian embassy in Burundi or the Indian visa portal for details. You may need to submit a paper application, attend an interview, and provide additional documents. Plan well in advance as processing can take weeks.
