ArrivalAt an airport or seaport designated for e-Visa arrivals

Estonian passport holders can obtain an Indian e-Visa for tourism, business or medical visits. You must apply online at indianvisaonline.gov.in before departure. The e-Visa allows entry at designated airports and seaports. Check the official site for the latest eligibility and conditions.

What the e-Visa means

The Indian e-Visa is an electronic travel authorisation that lets Estonian citizens enter India without visiting an embassy. It covers short visits for tourism, business, or medical treatment. You receive the visa by email after approval. Print the document and carry it with your passport.

The e-Visa is linked to your passport number. You must use the same passport when travelling. If you renew your passport after the visa is issued, you need a new visa. The e-Visa is not extendable or convertible to another visa type. Check the official site for any changes to the scheme.

Before you travel and on arrival

Apply for the e-Visa at least a few days before your flight. The application is on the official government website. You need a digital photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online. Wait for the electronic travel authorisation by email.

When you arrive at an Indian airport, go to the e-Visa counter. Present your printed e-Visa and passport. Your fingerprints and photograph will be taken. The immigration officer stamps your passport. You can then collect your luggage and exit the airport.

Arriving in big cities and travelling

Major Indian airports that accept e-Visas include Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Goa. You can also enter at certain seaports. Check the official site for the full list. From the airport, take a prepaid taxi or use a ride app to reach your hotel.

You can travel freely within India on the e-Visa. Domestic flights, trains and buses do not require additional permits for most areas. Some regions like parts of the northeast require a special permit. Check with the local authorities before travelling to those areas.

Staying longer, working or studying

The e-Visa is for short stays only. If you plan to work, study, or stay longer, you need a different visa. Apply for a regular visa at the Indian embassy in Tallinn before you travel. The embassy handles employment, student, and long-term visas.

For business activities beyond attending meetings, such as setting up a company or working, a business visa is required. For study, you need a student visa. Check the official site of the Indian embassy in Estonia for the correct application process and documents.
